Northville Mich Aug 3 A coroner's jury verdict on the Salem Mich Pere Marquette wreck of July 20 blames misreading order No 3 by Conductor Hamilton Engineer Rogers Head Brakeman Briggs and Flatman Becker of train No 71. It criticizes Pere Marquette operating rules for not requiring stops for orders at key meeting points and cites absence of such a rule as a direct cause alongside crew errors.
Clinton Illinois August 3 a grand jury indicts Fred Magill and his wife Faye Graham Magill in the death of Mrs Pet Magill. Each six count indictment accuses murder by strychnine or arsenic, smothering, chloroform, self destruction by agreement, and death by unknown means. The defendants were in court when the indictments were returned.

H D Keocheval of Sacramento reports that the International Equality League of California has adopted a petition urging President Roosevelt and immigration authorities to admit Asiatic labor and enterprise to California with no more restrictions than those on European labor. The group argues this would expand foreign commerce and preserve California industries by allowing Japanese free labor to enter the state.
