Secretary of the Interior approves Mor Cant plan creating a 200000 acre forest reserve on the Chippewa Indian Reservation in Minnesota near Lake Winnibigoshish. The area outside the reserve remains open to settlement and timber from the reserve will be sold for the benefit of the Indians.
The annual meeting of the Jota society was held at the Walton at night. Present were Judge W. D. Cornish and former Saar cer Merriam. A toast honored Alexander Ramsey. Albert Shawney was elected president of the society.

A catastrophic blast at the Northwestern Star Oil plant on Sixth Avenue Southeast killed ten people eight men and two women. Five workers on the second floor were thrown twenty feet into the air and escaped only by climbing through debris. Fire burned through the building, with investigators considering sparks from a switch engine igniting oil tank contents as a possible cause.
A daytime blaze in Fairbury Nebraska destroyed a large business quarter valued at 240000 to 300000 dollars, with extensive insured losses. Beatrice sent aid as Governor Mickey authorized militia patrols of the burned area. Major losses include two drug stores lumber yards clothing houses post office bank and several churches and residences.

Washington April 24 Postmaster General Payne announces the summary dismissal of James N Tyner assistant attorney general for the postoffice department and says Mrs Tyner with a safe expert removed and retains papers from Tyner s office. she refused the government s return demand and says the papers are private. Investigations and possible arrests expected, with authorities reviewing the case.
Paris reports semi official word that no action on Alfred Dreyfus’s request to reopen his case will occur until War Minister Andre returns. A chamber debate cited favors for an administrative inquiry and several papers say the war office is already pursuing one.
Willien Johnson of Chemplin Minnesota hanged himself in a barn using a wire to escape a mob that threatened to kill him near Frazer Iowa. The incident occurred on April 24 in Sioux City Iowa.
