The Labor Department reports wholesale prices rose two tenths of a percent in March driven by higher processed foods and industrial goods, offset by a one percent fall in farm products. Yearly prices up 5.5 percent.
A nationwide Teamsters strike starts with thousands of drivers on picket lines in Arlington Heights Illinois and across the nation. Negotiations between union and industry officials failed to avert the walkout and are set to resume at 9:30 am after a recess. Wages and other issues are at the center of the dispute.
Pickets appeared at truck terminals across Minnesota as the nationwide Teamsters strike began. Estimates of out drivers ranged from 7,500 to 12,000, but groceries moved to stores despite the walkout. Some firms not affected kept inventories flowing while iron ore and grain shipments continued.
The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that Karen Anne Quinlan may be allowed to die by removing life support if doctors deem her condition hopeless. The 7 to 0 decision named Joseph Quinlan as guardian and upheld a right to die based on privacy protections. The family, at St. Mary’s Mount Arlington parish, faced the decision amid Catholic prayers and public statements.
Striking drivers, dispatchers and mechanics of St. Paul Yellow Cab and Radio Cab Corp vote on a tentative contract after a strike that began at 4:30 a.m. Monday. The prior contract expired February 15.
A 25 year old helper at a family grocery store was shot three times by a ski masked robber Wednesday night and died after admission to a hospital in Eau Claire. Police identified him as Steven Anderson.

The board’s next meeting is today at 1 p.m.
