Templeton Clan Celebration Held in Llano County
A Templeton family reunion in Llano County marked the 100th anniversary of the clan’s Texas arrival. Alphons Templeton and family settled in Montague County before five sons and a daughter moved to Lone Grove in the late 1870s. A Lone Grove Templeton store has operated for 70 years. The gathering drew hundreds, formed a reunion association, and elected Ford Templeton president with committees named for secretary, food, and program duties.

In Georgetown on Sept 7 1949 Jonas M Shell Jr gathered old timers to recreate the 1849 supper near the San Gabriel River site. The group honored the memory with an old sugar bowl from that first meal and recalled Jonas Shell Sr son of a 49er landowner who bought 500 acres in Williamson County.

Wilkins and Company sold 530000 pounds of wool at auction in Denver. Best grades brought 60 cents per pound, most sales at 40 to 50 cents, and heavy shrinkage wool sold 30 to 35 cents. Fine average length wools were in demand. medium wools attracted many buyers. Eastern top makers and mills bought most lots. Core tests by the US Testing Company determined wool yield.

Judge Sam V. Stone chairman of Williamson County National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis urges directors to raise extra funds for polio care in a county labeled a stricken area. He notes $3,575.61 spent Sept 1 1949 to Aug 4 1949 and $740 spent in August for hospitalizations with $353 in doctor bills pending. Seventeen polio cases in the county are cited as basis for the emergency drive.
