Austin readies for the new term as about 15 000 students return. 13 000 registered last week with late signups expected to push total beyond the 15 000 mark. 58 new teachers join the system and salaries rise with a 2650 minimum.
Summer weather is forecast for Austin as students return on Monday with partly cloudy skies and isolated thunder showers. Temperatures will peak in the mid nineties, following a Sunday high of 93 and a statewide high of 99 at Laredo, while a cool front moves into the Panhandle with little effect on Austin.
The body of Mrs. Edna Maham, 75, was found on a creek bank two miles north of Paris. She had been missing since Tuesday morning. Justice of the Peace R. T. Nash delivered an inquest verdict that she died of exposure. A widespread search had been conducted.

York Maine September 11 Justice Wiley B Rutledge died at 55 from a cerebral hemorrhage suffered on a vacation two weeks earlier. Justice Robert Jackson blamed overwork. Rutledge was among the court's liberal bloc alongside Frank Murphy. Services will be held Wednesday at the Washington Unitarian Church with full court attendance anticipated.
The Air Force foresees long range jet bombers in the strategic fleet by about 1954 while the B-36 remains the interim spearhead. The XB-52 is in early mockup, with production likely four to five years away. current B-36 orders total 170 with a total program cost near 1.02 billion dollars and a possible 79 more aircraft.

Second place went to Laura O Banion of Miami Springs the Mrs Florida a hazel eyed mother of a 12 year old daughter. Third went to Mary Rippel called Mrs Columbus a blue eyed brunette who won two of three preliminaries in the finals.
The Republicans welcomed President Truman's defense of the 81st Congress as proof they have gained the offensive in the 1950 fight for control of Congress. Taft said Truman may campaign personally in Ohio to contrast Democrats’ record, while Wherry praised the 81st’s accomplishments and urged scrutiny of the 80th.
