A 20th Century Fox spectacle in Technicolor centers on Walter of Gurnie played by Tyrone Power with Orson Welles as Bayan and Cecile Aubry as Maryam. The film overcomes story length with vivid English countryside and China scenes, though continuity gaps mar the pace. Dean Jagger is underused in the Universal-International entry featuring Audie Murphy and Wanda Hendrix with Burl Ives songs and scenic color.

Fireman Disability Time Not Counted For Pension Credit
The Texas Attorney General ruled that disability time cannot count toward the 20 years of service needed for retirement at age 55 under the state firemen's pension law. The opinion, sent to Firemen's Pension Commissioner G. F. Williams, concerns a firefighter who was disabled for about four years and then returned to duty. It does not state that a long inactive period or disability benefits void future retirement eligibility.
