Labor asks High Court to halt master hearing in Brown and Root case

Labor unions ask the State Supreme Court for a mandamus to stop the master in chancery from taking testimony in Brown and Root Inc versus the American Federation of Labor and Texas Federation of Labor. The Third Civil Appeals Court refused to review the request. a court reporter shortage caused an early recess as the case resumes Monday.

West Side High School Call Spurs Bond Election

City School Board member Mrs. O D Weeks urged a west side high school in a radio broadcast, part of over 30 planned programs to sell a 20 million dollar municipal and public school bond issue. She said additional funds are needed to reduce junior high overcrowding and to start three new high schools.

Kiwanians Urged To Support Bonds

Walter Koch of the Austin School Board urged Capital City Kiwanis to back the 20 million dollar city and school bonds at the November 6 election. He warned bonds would raise taxpayers bills by about 13.5 percent. Four new members were welcomed: Mike Rowan John Franklin Carothers Jr Victor Randolph and C D Merz. Woodrow Sledge was introduced as a transfer member from the University Area Kiwanis Club. A committee to nominate officers and directors for next year was named.

City Manager Aids Ramshorn Launch in Houston

Walter Seaholm helped launch a Ramshorn Club in Houston on Friday night. Ramshorn clubs are formed by University of Texas engineering graduates. Seaholm was among four Austin men at the inauguration, including W. R Woolrich dean of engineering, J. Neils Thompson director of the off campus research center, and H. C. Gilstrap from the University athletic staff.
