Loft Building Fire at Midwest Salvage Company Collapses

A five floor loft building housing the Midwest Salvage Company burned and collapsed in a sensational 150,000 fire on Wednesday. Six firefighters were burned slightly.

Centexas Guardsmen Assigned to Army Service Schools

A lieutenant and three noncoms from Central Texas National Guard units were among 50 guardsmen assigned to Army service schools by Adjutant General K. L. Berry. First Lieutenant Tel E. Crowley of Gonzales will attend the mess administrators course at the Army Food Service School Fort Sam Houston. Sergeants Walter J. Kruse Taylor Wilburn E. Schmidt and Corporal Marvin E. F. Gold of Seguin also were assigned to the Food Service School.

$50 DWI Fine Upheld By Court Of Appeals

The $50 fine for T. S. Johnnie McKay in Travis County District Court for driving while intoxicated was upheld by the Court of Criminal Appeals. Austin Custody Escapee Arrested in Longview

William J. Patrick, a prisoner who escaped from deputies in Austin on September 13, was arrested in Longview. He fled by leaping from a Brackenridge Hospital window where deputies were taking him for treatment. He faced Travis County jail charges for auto theft and was linked to a burglary in Longview.
