A five floor loft building housing the Midwest Salvage Company burned and collapsed in a sensational 150,000 fire on Wednesday. Six firefighters were burned slightly.
A lieutenant and three noncoms from Central Texas National Guard units were among 50 guardsmen assigned to Army service schools by Adjutant General K. L. Berry. First Lieutenant Tel E. Crowley of Gonzales will attend the mess administrators course at the Army Food Service School Fort Sam Houston. Sergeants Walter J. Kruse Taylor Wilburn E. Schmidt and Corporal Marvin E. F. Gold of Seguin also were assigned to the Food Service School.

He fled by leaping from a Brackenridge Hospital window where deputies were taking him for treatment. He faced Travis County jail charges for auto theft and was linked to a burglary in Longview.
