Premier Jules Moch resigned after failing to unite Socialist and other leaders in a coalition cabinet. President Vincent Auriol accepted the resignation, leaving France’s government crisis unchanged amid labor clashes and prior resignations.

Light rain showers are expected in the Austin area late Tuesday as southerly winds rise during the day. Monday night forecast notes a high of 84 and a low of 57 with warmer temperatures ahead. Far West Texas saw rain with Van Horn and surrounding areas receiving over an inch.

Seven teen seamen aboard the Panamanian freighter Salina Cruz were rescued after the ship, carrying lumber, sank 180 miles west of Grays Harbor. The Black Douglas found ten survivors, the seven others in a sinking lifeboat were saved as it went under. A rescue plane could not guide the convoy due to rough seas.
Andrei Vishinsky, now Soviet foreign minister, will hold a news conference Tuesday at 4 30 p m CST at United Nations headquarters in New York. It is his first press conference there since taking the post last winter.
A chartered Piper Clipper en route Boston to Provincetown crashes seven miles off Cape Cod. Five aboard perish including Mrs Marion Gibbs Keppell and her two young children. pilot Dan Lacey and Mrs Edward S Davis die. Coast Guard recovered two women and the pilot. two infants remain missing.
Dalhart Texas reports Lenard Hawkins 34 a murder suspect dodged officers for five days after a 10 year old boy Michael Smith alerted his mother. Police flushed Hawkins from a tree clump at Middle Water after the boy brought matches to him. Hawkins confessed the shooting of Alfred Clark in Jerseyville.
Edward Graydon Grounds 19 a UT student died after plunging from the 27 story Tower. Justice of the Peace Travis Blakeslee said death due to voluntary fall with eye witness Robert Evans confirming the fall began below the observation tower. Grounds notebook was found on the tower bannister. Funeral services were held in Dallas for Grounds whose survivors include his parents and grandmother.
Assistant Secretary Paul H. Griffith condemned critics of unification as harming national defense and said the dispute continues. He warned that opposition groups threaten the war effort while stressing that unification strengthens defense and the Navy remains vital to wartime duties.
F W Arbelger 83 prominent Fredericksburg retired merchant died from gunshot wounds in his home. An inquest verdict ruled death by own action as the pistol was found beside the body. Survivors include wife one son Werner and four daughters. Funeral arrangements pending relatives’ arrival.
General Clifton B. Cates, commandant of Marines, told the House Armed Services Committee that Pentagon politics threaten to turn the Marine Corps into a police force. He accused the Army of eroding the corps combat power and cornering amphibious training funds while rumors swirl about Air Force control of marine aviation.
