Governor Allan Shivers proclaims Newspaperboy Day to honor boys like Billy Stevens and George Frederick. The Austin carriers, ages 14 and 15, have years of experience with routes in North Austin and even earlier with the Austin Statesman. Both walk thickly populated routes, one saving money while the other spends. Billy is son of Mr and Mrs W W Stevens and George is son of Mr and Mrs J F Frederick.

Two Teens Bound Over For Grand Jury Kidnapping Case
Wilburn McKenzie and Clyde Borders both 17 were ordered bound over to the 98th District Court grand jury on kidnapping charges connected to the Sunday disappearance of two Austin girls aged 13 and 14. A third suspect, Ivan Robbins, 18, faces the same charge. Mothers testified to the girls’ absence from home Sunday to Tuesday.
