Austin marks Armistice Day with a 10 30 a m parade led by Leslie Phares and veterans groups. Rain may cancel the event. a 6 pm veterans barbecue at the American Legion Home replaces a noon Driskill luncheon. The day includes a 8 15 am mass at St Marys Cathedral and a 7 30 am Legion breakfast at the Driskill. Hardy Hollers to deliver the speech. Proceeds fund veterans welfare with poppy sales around downtown and UT areas. Banks close all day. stores close 10 30 am to 12 30 pm.

Whisky in Oklahoma Prison Find Discovered in Tunnel

A 10 gallon whisky still and mash were found Friday inside Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. Deputy Warden H C McLeod said two guards discovered the setup in a steam tunnel beneath the prison light plant. An investigation is underway. Liquor is illegal in Oklahoma.

Defense Granted Postponement In Wheeler Trial

The Tax Assessors Collectors Association of Texas closed a two day convention Friday and announced its regular gathering on May 6 1951 in Galveston. E J Amey director of the motor vehicle division spoke on highway department basics for tax offices. S D Heffington Travis County tax collector hosted about 300 collectors and deputies welcoming newly elected officials and outlining duties for next year.

Assault Case Filed Against Officers in Second Suit This Month

The second damage suit this month against Policeman Warren Jones and Chief R. D. Thorp was filed by F. G. Cain in 53rd District Court seeking 18000 dollars. Cain alleges an October 7 beating caused multiple fractures and permanent injury, reducing earning power by 25 percent. He was arrested for disturbing the peace that day and pled guilty October 9. The petition seeks 13000 actual damages from Jones and Thorp and 5000 exemplary damages from Jones, accusing Thorp of negligence in employing Jones.

A&M Students Blamed In Early SMU Pep Fire

In Dallas on Thursday night a pile of kindling for SMU pep rally burned prematurely. SMU students rushed out to put out the flames and saved most of the pile, blaming Texas A&M College students for the incident as the two schools prepared for their football game this Saturday.
