State Hospital Funding Talk Set for Monday Hearing
State Representative Preston E. Smith proposes financing a $21 million hospital building program from interest income on special fund balances. The plan would retire debt using surpluses, affecting next year’s revenue outlook as out-of-town delegates prepare to attend the House Revenue and Taxation committee hearing at 9:30 a.m. in Austin. Governor Jester signaled possible special session if the plan stalls in regular session. The Senate has braided the hospital program into its House substitute, while omitting permanent eleemosynary construction in the initial bill.
