Margaret Sue Sommers of Dallas won the Miss Austin title at Disch Field, earning a chance to compete in Miss Texas in New Braunfels August 4 and 5. The 19-year-old Gamma Phi Beta member will later vie for Miss America.
A crewman on a B36 bomber was shot into space when a plastic dome burst over Arizona during a routine training flight at five and a half miles altitude ten miles south of Hope. Carswell Air Force Base said the unidentified crew member’s fate was not immediately known. The bomber returned to Carswell after circling the scene.

The facility normally operates about 650 workers across three shifts producing agricultural and industrial chemicals and explosives.
Burnet County holds a Domino Day on Saturday with a 1 p m program featuring Burnet High School Band. Fifteenteen candidates contest four rodeo queen titles for Marble Falls Briggs Bertram and Burnet. a mock trial follows with state officials.
