In Brewton Alabama Stephens Spinners a Bonita Ribbon Mills unit employs about 50 Negro women and 5 white supervisors. The plant trains workers to spin and dye ribbons with wages rising after a federal minimum hike. Horace Levy and local leaders promote the program as part of the New South effort to provide jobs and education for Black residents.
Five state college bands will send delegates to a three day district convention at Baylor University beginning Friday.
