When Willie Comes Marching Home review at the State Theater

20th Century Fox comedy directed by John Ford pokes fun at the armed forces from top brass to veterans. Dan Dailey plays a Punxsutawney native who enlists after Pearl Harbor and endures training, overseas service, and a humorous homecoming provoked by a wary hometown. Colleen Townsend and Corinne Calvet share top female roles. William Demarest plays Dailey’s father and delivers his usual veteran wit. The reviewer calls the film slow early but entertaining, with London and Washington scenes noted as highly amusing.
