Exiled King Leopold III won a Belgian plebiscite with 57 percent of valid ballots amid 151000 invalid votes. If invalid ballots are included he would have 54 percent of 5,236,740 total votes, while Parliament must decide final status.
Presidio County sheriff O W Morrow 43 died after being shot on a mountain road north of Presidio Texas Rangers highway patrol and deputies searched for suspects. He drove a mile toward Presidio after being wounded and the car left a wreck with bloodstains and a dragged fence. Investigators listed about 25 Mexicans and Texans seen in Ojinaca across the Rio Grande as persons of interest.
Olin Howard Harrison a 40 year old photographer was injured in a fight on Congress Avenue and is in serious condition at Brackenridge Hospital. Police seek a 23 year old Austin man suspected of slugging him as details say the attacker fled the scene after the assault. Vernon Dorsett of Vern's Bar reported seeing Harrison down in the street and identifying the aggressor.
Detroit reports Ford Motor Company has introduced 110 horsepower police models. The V-8 cars reach 60 mph in 11 seconds and can top 100 mph with throttle. Heavy duty seating and durable frames suit 24 hour duty as agencies place orders nationwide. Sale is restricted to law enforcement agencies.

Senator Brewster charges Democratic filibuster tactics are softening McCarthy's Communist on State Department charges. He says the inquiry has become a farce as Tydings promises to fire any disloyal employees found, while McCarthy resumes testimony before a Senate subcommittee.
Filing closes at 5 p m Monday as four candidates enter the April 1 election to fill three Austin Public School Board seats. Incumbents Gus Moos and Noble Prentice seek re election while Walter Koch and Don Howard join the race. Board President R W Byram not seeking re election. The March meeting may set April 1 as election date and discuss lowering teacher retirement age from 70 to 65 over four years. Dr J W Edgar outlined the plan before resigning as superintendent.
Community Chest workers will report today at 12 30 p m at the Salvation Army Youth Center San Marcos and Holly Streets Austin for the first 1950 general appeal session. Division goal leaders hope to exceed 92500 while the overall 1950 goal is 222354 for the city.

At Bee Caves Road city limits a Bergstrom AFB driver James R. Speigel overturned after swerving to avoid a rabbit. Passenger Miss Laverne Davidson 19 was treated at Brackenridge Hospital and released. The car struck a fence and two trees, ending upside down. the rabbit did not survive.
Howard Sutherland 84 former United States senator and West Virginia House member died at his Washington home after nearly three years of illness. He once edited a Fulton Missouri newspaper and served as assistant custodian from 1925 to 1933.

Admiral William F. Halsey urged drafting women for wartime service, noting that other countries do so and they would be useful in any branch. Major General Lewis B. Hershey said women may be drafted if America is attacked. Halsey, retired, heads to Honolulu for a peaceful vacation after planning to sail Wednesday.
Claude C. Shoemaker aged 48 died after a cottonseed rack collapsed while loading a truck at Plains Truck Line in Lamesa. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon. about 15 tons of cottonseed buried him for roughly 30 minutes before responders found him. He moved from Dallas two months ago. survived by widow and five children.
A Dallas price war unfolds as three milk price cuts drop home delivered pasteurized milk to 18 cents a quart, down from 20 cents. Producers report reductions of up to 60 cents per 100 pounds of butterfat, while Metzger Dairies delays matching cuts until the market direction is clear.
