Austin introduces a DDT fogging unit nicknamed Operation Dead Fly. Five sanitary engineers tested the mobile machine on Bee Caves Road dump site using a 5 percent DDT solution to create a smoke like fog for killing flies and mosquitos. The device, converted from a Navy smoke screen system, uses a gasoline motor boat type engine and a hot compression chamber to emit visible crystals that disinfect surfaces for weeks.
