Record of 209 New Members Join Austin Chamber of Commerce
Tuesday night 209 Austin firms and individuals joined the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the largest single meeting increase in the group’s history. Membership VP Noble W. Prentice announced similar numbers could join in a fall and winter program and a round-up group would maintain contact with newcomers. The list includes numerous named businesses and individuals across multiple sectors in Austin Park, from Safeway Farm Produce to Reid Insurance and many service stations, real estate firms, and manufacturers.

General Ramey Makes Farewell Visit To Bergstrom
Major General Roger M. Ramey, commander of the Eighth Air Force, visited Austin to bid farewell to Bergstrom Air Force Base before he leaves command on June 15. He will become director of operations at USAF headquarters in Washington, D. C. He praised Bergstrom crews for excelling in a postwar period amid obsolescence, housing shortages, and constant moves, and noted the enemy has a larger air force, but the U.S. is more proficient and better trained.
