Six Amerasia defendants to testify before Senate panel

Six defendants from the 1944 45 Amerasia case will face a Senate foreign relations subcommittee probing communists in government. Three Electrocuted By Greenville Wire

In Greenville on Wednesday night three people died in two separate electrocution accidents caused by a ground blown down in a Monday storm. Arch L. Stinebaugh and his granddaughter Celina died when stepping on a 2,400 volt wire near an unpaved street as his car stuck in mud. lineman W A Laird was killed at a cross brace by the same voltage line.

Food Prices Climb Four Cents This Week

The Dun & Bradstreet wholesale food price index rose four cents to 5.94, its highest since January 25, 1949. The index tracks wholesale cost of a pound of 31 common foods. Compared with a year ago it is up 3.5 percent. Increases occurred in corn, rye, oats, beef, hams, lard, sugar, cottonseed oil, eggs, potatoes, steers, hogs and lambs.

Community Chest in Austin Sees Boost in Donations

Hard Rainstorm Darkens Austin and Damages Aircraft

A violent thunderstorm hit Austin after 9 p.m. causing widespread darkness and power outages. Gusts reached 62 mph with 1.8 inches of rain, damaging an airport plane and striking city services. No major injuries reported.

The first cotton bale of the season was ginned in McAllen on Wednesday. Grower Pablo Rivera of La Grulla produced the 580 pound bale at the Neville Farley Williams gin in McAllen.

San Saba Census Shows 468 Jump

San Saba gained 468 persons in ten years raising its population to 3 385 while San Saba County declined by 2 300 to 8 682 in Thursday census figures announced by Ralph Trollinger of San Angelo.
