City School Board Reports 120 Percent Need for More Classrooms
Austin public schools must add 678 classrooms by 1960 61 to serve white and Negro pupil enrollment. Projected 1950 white enrollment 16 412 with capacity 14 310. Estimates show 331 white elementary rooms 300 junior high rooms 354 Negro rooms needed. Board approves Oasis and Wooldridge principals and a special education post. They will notify parents about possible closure of mentally handicapped classes and invite input. IQ 70 cited as normal retardation divider and transfers between districts are not approved.

Elmer E Paris, 68, a Spanish American War veteran, died in San Saba with services held locally and burial in High Valley Cemetery.

Identity of Body Still Undecided in River Find
City detectives could not identify a man found in the Colorado River Thursday afternoon. Fingerprints were sent to the FBI after police checked local records. No papers were found and autopsy was declined due to decomposition. The body showed a large scar on the left leg and measurements placed the man at about five feet eight inches with gray hair. He wore a blue pinstripe shirt, black wool pants, and brown low shoes.

Kiwanis Optimist Benefit Game Nets $666 in Admissions
Capital City Kiwanians received a partial financial report from the Kiwanis Optimist benefit baseball game at Disch Field. The 2-1 Optimist victory featured Austin Little League players, with $665.75 in box office admissions and about $750 anticipated for each club from advance ticket sales for their boys’ work funds. A joint Kiwanis Optimist meeting is planned to discuss fund allocations.

Brass price increase to raise paving costs in city plan
City water superintendent Albert R. Davis announced two brass suppliers will raise brass costs by 10 percent. The city's 25 percent discount remains unchanged. Two more Houston polio deaths were announced. Victims include Terry Lee Barclay a 14 month old and George Kennedy age five. Charles Wayne Banks age five died early Thursday. Seven new cases were admitted to local hospitals Thursday. Of 1950 polio deaths six were from Houston with three from outside Harris County. Fifty six Houston victims this year.
