The Austin Area Economic Development Foundation reports progress toward a large plastics processing plant to be built on a 20 acre site in Austin. Local investors would fund up to 100000, with 600000 plus company value and 75 to 90 workers initially. The project links to Jefferson Chemical facilities and defense industry orders.

The Travis County Chapter of the Texas Economy Commission formed at the Stephen F. Austin Hotel on Thursday. Former Senator J Manly Head elected chairman with Mrs Ivan Stout as secretary. General Ike Ashburn called the meeting for State Chairman John S Redditt. An executive committee of five will be appointed to guide county work and study and finance publicity study clubs and speakers committees. About 25 Austin members attended.

New Youth Chief Replaces Kyles at Salvation Army Center

Carlos Watkins named new director of the Salvation Army Youth Center at 1001 Holly Street. Captain James Lemon says Watkins will take duties early next week, replacing William Kyles who has led the center since its founding two years ago.

Moving Tower is Tough Job for Austin Light Relocation

City workers dismantle the 56 year old 19th Street East Avenue tower for reassembly at Hawthorne and Longfellow, a two to three week move. Officials say weather, ice and wear have tested the structure but it should last another 50 years with proper care.

Wet Weather Delays Traffic As Pigeon Tries Flight

Rain drenched city streets near Seventh and Colorado as a lone pigeon struggled to fly. Onlookers paused while traffic stalled, the bird wandering back and forth across Seventh Street then headed south down Colorado in a damp, comic scene.

State Selective Service officials ordered induction and examination centers in Amarillo El Paso Dallas San Antonio Houston and Shreveport Louisiana to process 1005 men for August examinations and September inductions Brigadier General Paul L Wakefield announced. County quotas are not yet set and local boards work on regional figures. Local boards will route men by shortest economical travels. Fourth Army issued an immediate call for volunteer reservists in radar radio tank antiaircraft mechanics and other specialties. Marines removed color perception quota restrictions and National Guard and State Guard units plan summer camps at Fort Hood and North Texas facilities.

A wandering stranger in Austin rattles local slang by calling natives mullets and using quirky phrases from El Paso to Santa Eagle. UT Businesses Seek Parking Meters on Guadalupe

Twenty one businessmen in the University of Texas area petitioned the City Council for parking meters in the 2400 and 2500 blocks of Guadalupe Street the University drug district. The petition was sent to the police department for recommendation.

Paving Plan Given Tentative Approval by City Council

The City Council tentatively approved a second installment based paving program covering 80 blocks with 34 streets included. Final action awaits next Friday when bids may be called after a special meeting. Mayor Glass cited petitions for 100 more blocks but limited funds.

Tots Bathing Review at Rosewood Pool Friday Evening

A tots' bathing review will be held at Rosewood Park swimming pool Friday at 8 p.m. Park director George Madson announced. A Rosewood band concert runs from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Also scheduled is a baseball game between Lockhart and Rosewood girls' teams.
