Guilty pleas entered in two cases in 53rd District Court on Monday. Wilford L. Milstead indicted for forgery and passing, and Arthur Lee Harrison indicted for theft. Milstead placed on two years probation. Harrison awaiting sentencing as testimony began in a third case involving Bobby Battles.

Trial opens in army camp cruelty charges
Fort Meade Maryland January 24 A former Army surgeon testified that solitary confinement prisoners in the guard house could keep feet warmer without GI shoes. Dr Edgar L Aller defense witness at the court martial of Captain Joel G Holmes Jr of Philadelphia. Holmes and four other officers faced charges they neglected duties by keeping prisoners in unheated detention cells at a Wurzburg Germany camp in winter 1946 47.

Twenty two men from the Austin area are among the first 484 Texans to be inducted into the Army in January.
