Former University Bank executive and longtime Austin resident vy. A. Bill Dyer, 74, died Wednesday after a long illness. He came to Austin in 1924, later worked for the Texas Welfare Department, and was active in civic groups. Survived by two sons, a daughter, two sisters, and a brother. Funeral Friday at Cook Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park.
A 15 year old Austin girl testifies she held the gun and not Sandra Peterson in the Patterson murder case. Loretta Fae Mozingo says she took the 32 caliber pistol from Sandra and aimed it at her to show she could not be pushed around. She admits possessing the weapon at all times and says she acted to save herself from the electric chair.
Police hunted the Brink’s armored car robbers after a Tuesday heist as phony tips clogged the inquiry. Reports claimed gunmen unseen jackets and a getaway car, but Boston’s Supt. Fallon called the leads inside work and noted the money’s small denomination limited serial-number tracing.
The Senate approved a repeal of the oleomargarine tax by 56 to 16 and rejected adding a large general tax cut. An attempt to attach civil rights riders to the measure failed 43 to 32, and the repeal becomes effective July 1 with 10 cent per pound yellow margarine and 0.25 cent per pound uncolored margins. The clash over House rules looms, potentially delaying civil rights legislation.

Fred Stroble, 68, facing murder charges in the death of six year old Linda Joyce Glacoft, was sent to a jury of 10 women and two men after a two week trial in Los Angeles. Prosecutors sought the death penalty while the defense argued for sparing execution as the panel began deliberations.
Thakolalhinabhi Raman of Bombay reported his Texas campus billfold was taken from the Chemistry Building on Wednesday afternoon. His visa papers and $70 in cash were missing and he asked for the return of the papers if not the money.
Three men die in a roadside shooting near Novice Coleman County with no eyewitnesses. T. S. Mulkey 57 and his son T. S. Mulkey Jr. 19 from Coleman and M B Tyler 30 of Brownwood are killed. Inquests begin as locals report cars found headed same way and a gun near Tyler.
A Junkers plane crashed into a mountain peak near Tobarra, 30 miles south of Albacete, fatally striking sixteen people including three Spanish Air Force officers on Wednesday.

J Hoover urged passage of tighter sex crime laws in a letter to Rep Cecil Storey of Longview, chair of the Texas criminal code committee. Storey quoted Hoover saying sex criminals escape on technicalities or weak laws, contributing to a 50 percent rise in criminal assaults over the past decade.
South Austin civic clubs and Parent-Teacher Associations voted for a citizens committee to study separating the public schools from city government. Superintendent J W Edgar cited a debt problem limiting bond sales and said three new high schools would cost about 1.5 million each, needing 14 million by 1960.
