Shivers Ramsey Take Oaths In Austere Texas Inauguration
Governor Allan Shivers was sworn in for a second term with a pledge to national mobilization and austere home-front economy. Lt. Gov. Ben Ramsey also took office to lead the new two year administration as the 52nd Legislature prepares to tackle what officials call the era’s most serious statecraft challenges. The ceremony, held outdoors in bright sun, had about 1500 spectators the smallest in years. The inaugural address urged courage and self sacrifice while Ramsey urged plain talk and an efficient administration focused on welfare.
