Plans for Coaching School In Austin This Week

Tyler Junior College clinched the Southwestern Junior College basketball championship by beating Lamar. Three Stakes At Hialeah This Week

Three important races with $75,000 added will be run in Hialeah Park’s last five days. The Flamingo Stakes tops the program at $50,000 added on closing day Friday. Pirates Sell Bockman to Indianapolis AA

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced the outright sale of third baseman Ed Bockman to Indianapolis of the American Association. Bockman, 29, was used mostly as a utility player and hit .223 last season. He came to the Pirates two years ago from Cleveland of the American League.

Olson wins Pine Mountain meet with long jumps

Iron Mountain report says Billy Olson of Eau Claire Wisconsin jumped 249 and 222 feet to take first in Class A at the Pine Mountain invitational ski meet, edging Fritz Tschannen of Switzerland, the world distance champion, by 202.3 points.

Abilene Christian Clinches Texas Conference Title Undefeated

Abilene Christian College wrapped up its third straight Texas Conference championship with an undefeated league run, defeating Howard Payne 64 to 51. The Wildcats completed the season perfect in conference play for the third consecutive year, as Texas A&I and Southwestern trailed in the standings. Last week's results included Midwestern 58 over Austin 50 and Texas A&I 65 over McMurry 63. The schedule listed Southwestern at Kingsville for the upcoming game.
