Texas farmers produced the state’s largest crop total, with USDA valuing all crops at 1.522 billion dollars. Cotton led with 917 million, 60 percent of the total, while wheat, oats, peanuts, and sweet potatoes also rose in value despite lower prices.

Washington December 30 Secretary of Agriculture Brannan Friday announced a corn production protection program calling for a 12.9 percent cut in planting next year to avoid a top heavy surplus. The 1950 planting goal would be about 11 million acres less than the 87,910,000 seeded this year.
The US Joint Chiefs of Staff will visit Hawaii and Japan in February to inspect Pacific defenses and receive a firsthand report from General Douglas MacArthur on the Chinese crisis. The trip, part of a global inspection tour, follows recent Navy deployments and discussions on limited arms aid to China.
In Georgetown, a Camp Hood soldier died and four others were injured when a sedan carrying six soldiers collided head on with a cattle trailer truck on Highway 81, one mile north of Jarrell. The dead man was Roy N. Nevills. injured were William H. Maine Paul M. Matthews Augustine Green Jr. and Tommy L. Lance. Charges of negligent homicide were filed against the sedan driver Thomas Mavritte.
Georgia crowds greet Operations Waterlift as a tanker travels 1200 miles toward New York. The convoy heads through South and North Carolina and Virginia with planned Washington D C pause for newsreels. Georgia officials humor the party with a city keys ceremony and a lighthearted detour suggestion.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported 11 more violent deaths during the Christmas New Year period, including traffic fatalities. Names and ages include Billy Wayne Mitchell 19 a Texas Tech student from Denver City and others from Andrews Tyler Longview Victoria San Antonio and Brownfield among the victims.
Five people were injured in a two car collision at 51st and Clarkson Streets Friday night. Marvin Nowotny was hospitalized for observation at Brackenridge Hospital for possible back chest and shoulder injuries. Relatives Mrs Nowotny Arlen and Douglas Nowotny were treated and released. Lewis M Couch sustained a forehead abrasion. Investigating Officer Fred Cehand said the cars driven by Nowotny and Couch collided.
