Former Undersecretary of State Sumner Welles was found semi conscious in a Maryland field near his Oxon Hill estate. He may have suffered a heart attack during an after midnight walk in sub freezing weather and remains in serious condition at Casualty Hospital. A fur coat helped prevent freezing, doctors say as the cold night measured 15 degrees at National Airport.

Western Powers Near Agreement on German Military Security Board

Gen. Lucius D. Clay announced that the United States Britain and France have reached substantial agreement on a military security board to supervise Germany after the armed forces are disarmed. Marooned Fliers Rescue Delayed on Greenland Ice Cap

The Air Force reported poor visibility halted a Sunday rescue of 13 airmen stranded on a Greenland ice cap. Seven men were marooned two weeks prior, with three rescue aircraft grounded. One tow rope broke on a prior attempt, and Lt. Howard L. Halstead of the 75th troop carrier squadron is named. In Amarillo on Christmas night the American National Bank suffered a burglary. Thieves entered by a roof hole and forced open a night deposit box, taking cash at least $5,000 plus an unestimated amount of checks.

Family of Six Perish In Cottage Fire Near Barre Massachusetts

A family of six including three children died in a pre-dawn blaze that swept their cottage on the old Petersham Road in Barre Mass Sunday. Believed dead are Francis G. Wales 34 Lydia 30 their children Francis 9 George 8 Belle 3 and Lydia’s father Ralph Smith 65 of Boston Hyde Park.

Orange Man Drowned While on Fishing Trip

Uvalde Seeks Kidnapper After 10 Month Old Attacked

In Uvalde Texas a 10 month old girl Juanita Gail Lehrman was kidnapped and assaulted Christmas Eve.
