Insurance Group Seeks Site for Regional Office
The Austin Real Estate Board heard a request from the Austin Area Economic Development Foundation to locate a 10 to 20 acre site with highway access and full utilities for a large Texas regional office building by a major insurance company. The ADF proposal was discussed at a luncheon as the board announced holiday pauses. the next meeting line up is the Jan. 9 annual dinner for new officers. The event also honors the 1950 Most Worthy Citizen. Incoming officers listed include A B Beddow president, Bob Gorham and Cecil Nobles as vice presidents, with other leaders and directors named.

The Austin Area Economic Development Foundation announced early 1951 selection of Austin for a new industrial enterprise. Gibbs Battery Company of Corydon Iowa will open a warehousing and branch sales unit in Austin after the new year and later establish a small manufacturing plant employing five to ten people. The firm’s president S. E. Gibbs and Mrs. Gibbs discussed sites with staff and informed the foundation. An Eastern nursery stock distributor plans to visit after Jan 1 to discuss locating warehouse and distribution facilities in the Southwest, including wholesale growing of nursery stock with refrigerated warehouses and trucks.
