Elgin Man Shot in Alley After Argument

Alvin Paris, 52, of Elgin, was hospitalized Sunday with a bullet wound to the abdomen and was in serious condition. Sheriff E D Cartwright said Paris was shot by a man in an Elgin alley before noon following a dispute and that a suspect surrendered and is being held in Bastrop.

San Joaquin River Breaks Past Levees

The San Joaquin River broke through several levees south of Stockton flooding lowland areas. About 100 National Guardsmen and the full San Joaquin County sheriff's department were deployed to rescue residents from the rising flood in Northern California during the week long emergency.

Missing C45 Located Crashed in Mountains

Wreckage of the C45 Air Force plane missing since November 30 on a flight from Albuquerque to Hill Air Force Base near Ogden Utah was found Sunday about 30 to 40 miles southwest of Hanksville Utah. Slow Lava Threatens Sicilian Villages From Mt Etna

In Sicily near Catania a lava flow more than 2,000 feet wide and 46 feet deep descended from Mt Etna toward Milo and Renazzo. The slow stream, once feared to engulf the villages before dawn, was moving at a crawl as University of Catania experts offered no new timetable.
