The University of Texas will send the largest group from any institution to the American Chemical Society Sixth Southwestern Regional Meeting in San Antonio December 7 to 9. Travis County officials urged creation of a state institution to care for habitual alcoholics as seven men face multiple drunkenness charges in county court. County Attorney Perry Jones and Judge Mace Thurman said current options are costly and ineffective, noting an estimated 100 to 200 habitual drunkards in the city. They cited a potential state alcoholic hospital funded by prior legislature as a needed solution.

A two case criminal docket will be called for trial Friday in County Court at Law. The list includes 23 driving while intoxicated cases 9 for swindling with worthless checks 6 for aggravated assault and 2 for aggravated assault on a police officer.
