Kalamazoo Michigan December reports that a CIO United Steelworkers union admitted its members staged dawn raids on two Shakespeare company plants. About 300 raiders came from state locals as police tracked cars from Wayne County. Seven injured, cars overturned, a truck burned, and equipment damaged. Government seeks a one man grand jury to pursue raiders. Shakespeare cites plant auto parts and fishing tackle production and union demands on seniority and probation.
President Truman received a personal message of congratulations from General Douglas MacArthur in a White House visit via Joseph B. Keenan, chief prosecutor at the Japanese war crimes trial. Keenan said MacArthur asked him to deliver the note.
An all-white jury in Wetumpka Alabama convicted 30 year old John C Howard Jr of raping Melinda Jackson 22 last April 25 and sentenced him to 45 years in prison. Prosecutors urged a verdict proving justice regardless of race and sought no parole. The trial noted two white men faced charges in related assaults on Black women.
Five people were shot on a bus near Cleveland Bradley County Tennessee when two passengers a white man Jack Bennett and a Negro James A Phillips opened fire after the Negro sat beside the white man. Bennett was wounded in the left shoulder Phillips was unharmed four other whites Edward Thomas D L Stanberry Mrs Grady Duggan and Mrs J M Preasman were treated at General Hospital Cleveland with injuries of undetermined severity.
President Truman approves the promotion of 24 naval officers to rear admiral pending Senate approval in January. Included is Captain Lorenzo Sherwood Sabin Jr. of Dallas, Texas, currently on duty at the Naval Gun Factory in Washington D C.

Paris December 2 French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman said France may soon merge her German occupation zone with Britain's and the U S zones to share Ruhr control. The National Assembly approved the Ruhr policy 337 to 181 after a long debate. He said France could gain influence only through a Trizonia merger with Anglo American and French zones, aided by the Marshall Plan.

Mrs. Vivian Holweger, 20, obtained a divorce on December 2 after revealing her husband married her to win two quarts of whiskey in a bet. The revelation came in Minneapolis, reported by UP.
Paris December 2 The Security Council shelved Israel s bid for UN membership and sent the application to a membership committee delaying action until the General Assembly meets next year. Arab and Jewish delegates blocked two key parts of a British Palestine plan undermining partition and Bernadotte references.
