Navy Calls Nine Reserves to Duty

Navy reserves nine sailors ordered to report for active duty. Six names listed for Sept. 7 Houston Navy Recruiting Office and two for Sept. 11 with one for Sept. 23, including James E. Patton and Roscoe M. Johnson among others.

Resignation of Ben H Rice from State Legal Post

Assistant Attorney General Ben H Rice 111 will retire from the Texas Attorney General's Office on Friday to resume private practice with Vinson Elkins and Weems in Houston. He has served three and a half years in the land division after previously working at Carter Carter and Rice of Austin. Mrs Rice is Judith Craddock, daughter of Dan Craddock of Austin.

Two Austinites Named By National Guard

The Texas National Guard announced assignments by Adjutant General K. L. Berry. Clement F. Fain of 206 West 13th Street was named captain and assigned as appeals officer in the Judge Advocate General Division. Joseph J. Sanders was appointed second lieutenant and designated division quartermaster officer in the 36th Quartermaster Company.

Victim Recovering From Auto Injuries

Paul R. Bielss 61 is recovering from injuries after being struck by a car driven by Bartford Floyd Heath Tuesday night. Bielss received treatment at Brackenridge Hospital for a forehead cut and elbow bruise. Heath, driving west on Second Street and turning onto Congress Avenue, struck Bielss as he crossed Congress. A complaint of driving with an expired operator license was filed in Corporation Court Wednesday.
