UT to Use Atom Treated Cobalt In Cancer Research
New York reports the University of Texas will house radioactive cobalt at M D Anderson Hospital Houston for cancer treatment research. The piece, twice a golf ball in size, was heated to radioactivity at Chalk River Canada over 18 months and will be encased in a lead housing with doors to block rays. Plans include a insulated lab funded by a 1.25 million dollar appropriation, part of a 5.35 million dollar hospital construction project. Dr. Gilbert H. Fletcher and Dr. Leonard G. Grimmett will lead the program with ACS and UT support.
