The 50 voice Texas Lutheran College a cappella choir directed by Philip F. Knautz leaves Seguin for a 21st annual tour covering about 2,500 miles. Freshman Ruth Bohls of Austin is a member as the group visits Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma cities before returning April 21 and concluding May 7 in San Antonio.
Fayette County politics begin to boil as county treasurer Guy L. McCraw announces reelection bid. Justice of the peace George I Haidusek also announces. Commission seats in Precincts 2 and 3 see contests with R. E. Pietsch versus H. E. Rapp and John J. Voldan challenging Wallace Cherry. County judge candidate Henry J. Schovassa files. incumbent H. W. Pitman seeks reelection.
Thorndale High School students earned three trophies at the Interscholastic League Region VI meet held Saturday. The senior boys took a volleyball trophy while the junior high girls and ward school junior girls won softball trophies. Other participating schools included Snook Milano Rockdale Sharp Buckholts and Thorndale.
At the Bertram FFA Father-Son banquet six honorary members were named: J. O. McKenzie J. R Adkerson Guthrie Taylor James Fry Herman Barton and Murray Williams. Guest speaker E V Walton of A&M College spoke on guiding fathers and sons toward farming success. Geraldine Carroll received the Best of Honor as FFA Sweetheart.
Everett T. Dawson of the Texas Fish, Game and Oyster Commission spoke to local Boy Scouts in Elgin about balance of nature and wildlife conservation. He displayed animal skins and discussed biologist studies and census data, ending with a film showing a roadrunner fighting a rattlesnake.
In Elgin the 25,000 dollar school bond issue was carried by a large majority. Trustees elected were Elmer Burke Paine Williams and Dr Joe V Fleming for terms. Other candidates included Arthur Schroeder Walter Carlson and Mrs Louis Lundgren with Schroeder and Carlson as former trustees and Lundgren a new candidate.
Bertram earned first place in the District 73B finals at Johnson City. Participating schools were Boerne Johnson City Blanco Comfort Bertram and Dripping Springs. Catherine Orr led the feminine role with a cast including Leon Hinds Kert Good Donald Collins Glenn Hinds and Kenneth Handy.
Kerr County's National Infantile Paralysis Foundation chapter elected Dr. J. L. Bullard as chairman. Joining him are Lloyd Luna as vice chairman Mrs. W. A. Franke as case worker Mrs. Charlotte Bellott as secretary and A. J. Lochte as treasurer.
The Briggs High School National Honorary Society will be formally initiated at a tea on Thursday night. Members include Joyce Caskey Gypsy Smith Nora Faye Daniels Wanda Gene Williams Peggy Wilson Patsy Wilson Glynda Carson Cora Ellen Black Fred Crooks Neal Swope James David Smith and Harrell Williams.
