Washington reports the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty by 12 Western nations to pool defenses against the Soviet Union. Washington April 3 The signing of the North Atlantic Security Pact will be televised and seen across New York Philadelphia and Chicago. The ceremony in Constitution Avenue's government auditorium will feature 12 foreign ministers and delegates, with President Truman signing at about 3 30 p.m. CST and each minister signing with a fountain pen. The Marine Band and formal speeches will precede the signing.

King Abdullah of Trans-Jordan signed an armistice with Israel on Sunday night valid for one year and renewable. Trans-Jordan will negotiate on Iraq’s behalf and take over Iraq-held lines in Northern Palestine. Syria remains the active combatant and armistice talks were to begin Tuesday. Armistices have been signed with Egypt and Lebanon.
