Time Fasis on OF MERIT and Local Notices

A compact late 19th century style column lists rail schedule items passenger and express trains with times, followed by notices on debts for baled hay, local real estate marketing, cemetery planning, a Lord's Prayer photograph offer, marriages and births, post office unclaimed letters, street and church developments, and various local business and civic notes.

Revenue fraud schemes and patent medicine touts in old Chicago issue

A fragment from a Chicago era column discusses revenue fraud via whisky sales and checks, with Bel mark fifty and A and B paper transactions. It also praises Dr. Strickland’s remedies for piles, diarrhea, cholera, and Staicreann’s Live Bitters, plus Velpat’s Female Pilla for monthly sickness, all advertised in the same page.

Moore Hill Community Notices and Local Moves

Mr A P Cady moved into a new Broadway house and Rev Jas Cotton relocated from Rising Sun to Moore Hill. L E Stevens of Cincinnati bought Kelly’s Broadway cottage. Wm Justis sold the old furniture shop portion for moving to his Ripley county farm to continue his trade. Good wood costs $3.50 per cord. Hakill family returned to Cincinnati to spend fall and winter. Thomas Boyd rented their vacated house. Henry Noble, the marshal, moved to Dr A P Daughters’s farm. On the 15th, J W Moore and Clara L Eldridge wed at M E Church. Taurenceburg String Band entertained. praised as a jolly group with sweet music.

Religious and Benevolent Meetings in Wilmington

The religious and benevolent societies of Wilmington hold regular meetings at the Methodist Episcopal Church with preaching by Rev. Isaac Turney every Sunday at 10 40 a m, class meetings Sunday at 3 and Tuesday at 7, Sunday school at 9, singing school Saturdays, and prayer meetings Sundays and Thursdays at 7. Wilmington Lodge No 158 FAM meets on the Saturday before each full moon. Wheat sowing grows in good weather as farmers increase acreage. Mrs Brooks sold lot No to Abram Stalder for 400. Mrs Burlingame leaves for Sparta. Mr De is commended. graded school progress noted.
