The Aurora city paper reports Thanksgiving services led by Rev. Tinsley at the Presbyterian Church, plus obituaries for John Fickenscher and other local figures. Cemetery committee stalemate, bankruptcy at Billing & Schultz, mail and train notices, and local society notes fill the page with community updates and a saloon reunion tale.
The regular November meeting led by Mayor Criswell approved multiple bills including Gaff & Co. and Day firms, laid a Garity bill aside, and accepted a proposal from William Green to build a stone arch on Market Street. Watts and others were appointed to draft contracts with Green, Simpson, Veddern, and Bruitt for security work. Kemper named chief policeman and a sewer contract with Michael Pfeiffer was authorized with a contract committee including Criswell, Watts, Bauer. Additional notes mention witness fees to Mrs Bussell and various local undertakings.
A descriptive notice for a weekly sale of a new dwelling with two acres on the Aurora and Lawrenceburg turnpike. Terms require one third down, balance in one, two, and three years with interest, payment secured by mortgage. Auctioneer Ed F. Sibley promotes the sale as a prime investment and lists the saloon and restaurant on Second Street, Aurora.
On Monday the 18th inst the Dearborn Circuit Court convened at the Court House in the absence of Judge Wilson. Judge Adkinson opened the court and proclaimed the Grand Jury. Judge Wilson then appeared Tuesday morning and took his seat. Sunday 17th witnessed a wedding at the bride’s father home as Henry Claws marries Mollie Brace both of Hiodan Township. A mite society is planned by village youth to aid benevolent causes meeting next Wednesday at B Q Landon’s. Town improvements include a new sidewalk in front of the Seminary, and personal news mention Mrs. B A Conger in feeble health and editor A Bookwalter visiting the village with commendable conduct.
Orrin Wilson begins work on a new dwelling and plans winter completion. D A B Pennewell has recovered enough to resume duties. A children’s concert will be held in the college chapel on Friday evening, Nov 29, under Messrs Wood Webber Hartiega. A Mahood grandson was dislocated after a horse incident. Doctor Velpan's French Pills are promoted for ailments, sold by local druggists.
