Mr Jone Hars of Jones Station partners with R B King to form Hays and King a general dry goods and grocery business. Mrs Cordray of Wilmington died suddenly last Saturday evening and was laid to rest Monday after a funeral.
Mrs M B Hayes transfers a dwelling on Moore Street to Captain A B Pattison. Washington township sees Sylvester Huffman sell a farm on the Dillsborough turnpike to John Osborne.
The Aurora Eingerbund hosted a well attended Monday evening ball at Schulze's Hall to raise funds for a musical instrument for the society. Despite bad weather the hall was crowded with the city’s Teutonic elite and the music, dancing, and singing provided lively entertainment.
John S. Shattuck buys an interest in the Goodwin and Johnson grocery, retains express and telegraph agency, and shifts operations to new premises. Lodge and Bridell form after L W T Lodge buys into S W Bridell’s grocery, expanding stock for Third Ward shoppers. The four months winter term ends this week after exams. With public funds exhausted the board will run a five month pay school led by Mrs Stratton Mrs Murphy and Miss Matthews McDonough Kennedy Gould and Scoble. Mr Hutchinson resigns leaving ladies in charge for a month and German classes continue. Tuition set at Primary five Intermediate seven High School nine dollars. A one week vacation will occur and school begins January 29 with the German and other classes under capable teachers.
