Gunboat dispute over planter debts echoed by New Orleans letter
A wartime letter from New Orleans dated December 18, 1863, criticizes gunboat claims against planters and urges transferring debts to others. It laments hardships for wives and children, notes debtors moved or in Confederate service, and accuses some creditors of exploiting distress while West & Natherox and West & Nettleton are named as parties to the correspondence.
