Presentation of Sword to Colonel Mehringer by 91st Indiana Regt

A December 1863 report from Camp Nelson Kentucky details the 91st Indiana Regiment's parade for presenting a jeweled Damascus blade sword with gold mountings, a silver scabbard, belt and sash to Col. 16th Indiana Mounted Infantry at Spanish Lake raid

From Iberia Louisiana November 22 1862 a report on the 16th Indiana Mounted Infantry under Col Tom Lucas marching to Vermillionville road near Spanish Lake. Cavalry and infantry combined to trap and capture enemy forces including one hundred men and twelve officers of the 7th Texas. The 16th Indiana praises field service with no illness reported. Seventh Indiana Cavalry notes their unit has 1 213 men and strong officers including Shanks Browne Beck and Simonson.
