Scandinavian Folk Art Exhibit Opens in Sanford Museum
An exhibit titled Scandinavian Folk Art and Crafts opens Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Sanford Museum Cherokee Iowa. It features three units including Norwegian Decorative Paintings Through 1000 Years with fifty enlarged photos loaned by the Smithsonian and Norwegian Artists, a display of children’s paintings loaned by Margaret Pedersen Sioux City Public Schools, and selections from 300 samples gathered during two Scandinavian trips with dozens more works.

The Cherokee County museum debuts a collection of Scandi Nordic heirlooms and crafted items gathered by Mrs. Carl Benander. Pieces include copper kafe kitters, dolls, books, carved trays and woven goods with coffee and Swedish cookies served by Bethlehem Lutheran Church members in costume. The museum hours are weekdays 9 to 12 and 1 to 5, with Sunday 2 to 5, Monday planetarium at 8. closed holidays.
