Warmest Mid-September Week In Iowa Since 1897
The weather crop bulletin reports the past week was the warmest second week in September since 1897 with mean temperatures 8 degrees above normal and high readings up to 96. Dry sunny conditions accelerated corn ripening and about half the early fields are safe from frost, with improvements forecast if favorable weather continues. Fall plowing slowed by dryness but some sowing of rye and wheat began in southern districts, garden truck plentiful, peaches excellent, apples dropping fast and crop lighter than expected. Clover seed prospects remain favorable.
