More Soil Conservation Work Started On Farm

On Tuesday morning October 10 a crew of 20 CCC men began erosion control work on the Claude Hollingshead farm south of Quimby in Willow township. The second crew follows last week’s start at the Glenn Curtis farm. Plans by Arnold, Lamp and Hollingshead call for 9000 feet of terraces, contour cultivation, grass buffers, good rotation with legumes, and retiring 22 acres to permanent pasture for better grazing.

Watershed Farm Fencing and Tree Planting Planned

A 5 acre woodland adaptation project will fence and plant trees next spring to form a future woodlot and shelter for wildlife. Fences will be altered to suit contour farming with materials from the farmer. CCC boys will perform the work. Broad waterways will be seeded or sodded to protect runoff. Sod flumes may be built at drainage overfalls. Planning continues on the watershed group of farms with work to start as plans are approved.
