Mrs. B H Dubes hosted Mt Olive Ladies Aid with assistant hostess Mrs Paul Anderson on October 26 in her home. President Mrs Lloyd Ohlson led roll call with scripture responses. The group reviewed thank you notes and a treasury report.
A Peace Program at the M. E. Church in Aurelia on Friday featured Devotionals led by Mrs. Raymond Gregg and prayers by Mrs. E H Gillet. The event referenced County Ladies Aid activities in Cherokee and included readings from Rhoda and Benny Armstrong and an editorial by Rev. Stanley Gillet. A two course luncheon followed with a large attendance and several visiting dignitaries and locals noted throughout, alongside reports of club meetings, church events, funerals, and social visits across Aurelia Cherokee and surrounding areas.
Supporters of Glenn Curtis urge voters to back his bid to represent Cherokee County in the Iowa Legislature next winter. Curtis, a lifelong county resident, has two previous terms in the state body and is praised for fairness and community service.
A soldier has been away on a destroyer for over two years and has been home for two years. Sunday visits include Cliff Bruce and family in Aurelia, and social calls by Wayne Wilson, Jess Pennington, Kenneth Pennington, August Peterson, Emil Carlson, Earl Crippen, Frances Peters, Eva, Farley Abshire from Geyserville, California, at Robert Torrey's home.
Miss Eleanor Anderson of Rockford Illinois visited Fred Hokanson with an uncle and friend. Fred Menefee of Sioux Rapids is reported missing in action. Local families hosted visitors from Cherokee Sioux City and Aurelia. A Halloween party hosted by 4 H girls and leader Mrs Clyde Kudrle took place in a new garage. Gifts and showers, farm sales, and Sunday dinners appear among routine community happenings.
Mrs. Troy Mummert was a medical patient at the Sioux Valley hospital in Cherokee last week.
Mrs. O C Hickey reports numerous Sunday dinners with guests from the Dukes Ohlson Lindquist Fell Gates and Schnell households. Families from Lawrence Boothby Davis and nearby towns gathered at several homes for meals and visits.
The Afton League of the Four Leaf Clover held a Halloween Party on October 31 in the Victor Carlson farm garage. About 87 attendees, including leader Mrs. Clyde Kudkle and assistant Mrs. Burt Mummert, enjoyed corn shock decor, jack o lanterns, hay seats, games, dancing, and music by phonograph records and Mitchell Johnson on accordion. A club treasury funded hot dogs buns chips pop and doughnuts for lunch.
