A series of 1930 announcements seek Republican primary support in Cherokee County for a state representative a county attorney and a sheriff. Candidates urge voters to decide at the June primaries referencing Cherokee County and party lines.
John W. Stevens declares his Republican bid for Cherokee County Recorder. He asks voters to support him at the June primaries and thanks friends for past favors while noting he cannot meet everyone in person.
The town of Aurelia Iowa will hold a bid letting on June 10 1930 at 7 00 p m in the council chamber for laying 2280 feet of water mains with town furnished material and digging about 150 yards of ditches. Cherokee county wool growers may market through the National Wool Marketing Corporation via the Iowa Sheep and Wool Growers association. Members pay a $100 lifetime fee and receive grading at Des Moines under Iowa State College supervision. Shipments go directly to mills to avoid double freight, with dates set to prevent congestion.
The Congregational Missionary Society held a Mother's Day program at the church on Wednesday. Highlights included an Address of Welcome by President Mrs. W. G. Whitney devotionals by Rev Trigg a solo by Miss Mary Fraser and a talk on Womanhood Eight Stages of Womanhood. A luncheon followed. The K P Lodge then hosted a party on Tuesday night for longtime member Ed Johnson with cards and luncheon.
County Farm Bureau members plan the annual achievement day to showcase home project work and nutrition efforts. The event on Thursday June 12 at the M E church Cherokee starts with a ten oclock program followed by lunch reservations through township chairs. Mrs N May Larson will advise leaders on improvements and each township will display a poster and a featured exhibit as part of the noncompetitive program.
The Aurelia high school announces the top four in the graduating Senior class: Kathryn Meier, Hazel Danielson, Clarence Bengtson, and Olive Coombs. Alumni secretary Robert L. Finch of Drake University gave the commencement address titled “What Are You Thinking About?”
Fred Sump son of Mr and Mrs Herman Sump died May 16 from pneumonia and heart trouble. He received a military funeral from Dean Underwood Post at Peterson with Legion marchers escorting his casket to St John’s Cemetery. He was 38, born November 7 1896 in Archer Township Cherokee County. He served in WWI, was gassed, later suffered rheumatism, and died after pneumonia worsened his condition. He leaves parents one brother and three sisters.
