Iowa plans vast postwar building program and bonds

A state wide postwar building drive is planned with 43.7 million dollars on hand by June 30 to fund new construction and job creation. Funds include 27.5 million in road accounts and 16.18 million for state projects including 13 million for primary roads and 10 million for secondary roads. Projects cover hospitals, schools, and correctional facilities across Iowa, with additional 2.5 million for a Des Moines state office building. Officials note bond investments will back these projects, while labor and material shortages may delay full realization. The piece also covers cigar tax declines and Civil War veterans’ survivors in the state.
