Sixteen Men Try Out For Aurelia Baseball Team

Sixteen men attended a Sunday tryout for the Aurelia semi pro team organized by playing manager Wattie Holm. Ralph Bleyer from Schaller, who pitched well last season and has Sioux Western League rights, will be eligible to play. Stanley Pritchard of Schaller also played for Aurelia last year and is expected to be in the lineup. The club plans to schedule games against strong teams with home games set for May 21 Remsen here, May 28 Algona Brownies here, and May 30 Winnebago Indians here.

Tolzin and Neises Tie in Aurelia ceremony

Ralph Tolzin of Aurelia and Miss Mabel Neises of Cherokee were married Saturday afternoon April 29 at St. Pauls Lutheran parsonage in Aurelia in a single ring ceremony. Rev. Wm. Walter officiated. The couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Heimsoth. The bride is the daughter of Charles and Mrs. Neises of Kimball South Dakota and has worked in Cherokee. The groom is the son of Will and Mrs. Tolzin southeast of Aurelia.

Memorial Association Meeting Set for May 15 in Aurelia

A Memorial Association meeting will be held at the Community Club room Monday evening at 8 o'clock to name committees and plan observance of Memorial Day in Aurelia on May 30. All are invited to attend.

Brooks reelected Cherokee county schools superintendent

Miss Irene Brooks won reelection over Earle Berkler of Meriden in Cherokee county by 18 to 5 votes taken at the courthouse on Tuesday. Other notes report Pastor Earl Holmberg arriving May 25 to lead Bethlehem Lutheran, Moonlite Inn owner Henry Teerink fined 300 dollars for drunken driving, 88 percent of Cherokee county cropland signed for the 1939 AAA program, and Wilson high school bands earning eight Division One ratings at the Carroll state music contest.

Mrs Johns and Mrs George Johns visited east of Galva. Linquist called at Storm Lake Monday. A rain fell Saturday night helping farmers planting corn this week.
