The Aurelia Sentinel is published weekly on Thursdays and is entered as second class matter at the Aurelia Iowa post office. Proprietor E C Lighter leads the paper.
Several candidates declare for Cherokee County Republican primaries in June 1930. Arthur I Birch seeks state representative or county attorney nominations. N M Nelson also runs for state representative. A candidate announces for county attorney, urging GOP primary support.
William Vehe an ordained minister who founded an Evangelical congregation near Wamego Kansas faces a memorial service invitation on the church’s fiftieth anniversary May 11 1930 Vehe began preaching at Napoleon Missouri after theological study and early charge He traveled thirty miles into the prairie to establish the church which later was dedicated and remains a landmark as the town of scattered shanties grew around it
The veteran pastor, after a Napoleon tenure, served four congregations in McHenry county Illinois then preached in Carpencerville Llinws Gladborook Iowa near Council Bluffs Aurelia Hartley and Remsen. He retired there and is now emeritus. He moved to Cherokee to run a basement repair shop and will decide soon whether to accept an invitation to preach.
Melvin Carlberg of Alta and Opan Nitzke of Storm Lake were married Easter Sunday April 20 in Canton South Dakota at the Methodist Church. Rev Kierton officiated. Attendants were Marguerite Brader and Sidney Nitzke. A wedding luncheon followed at the Rudolph hotel.
