Cherokee county 4-H boys and girls will host a county wide party from 8 to 11 30 p m Monday April 18 at the Eagles auditorium with games and refreshments. The committee plans a meeting at 8 p m Monday March 30 at Mrs Hughes home 510 West Cherry street. Participants should learn Old Dan Tucker and Sicilian Circle as part of the evening.
The National Safety Council reports 101 500 deaths from accidents in the United States in 1941. Only four diseases killed more: heart disease cancer cerebral hemorrhage and nephritis. Every five minutes an accidental death occurs. We must conserve lives limbs and material to aid our servicemen at the front.

Nearly $110,000 in cash prizes will be offered by the 1942 Iowa State Fair for farm livestock 4-H and other exhibits and events. Top prizes include 28027 for cattle 18914 for 4-H entries 16754 for horses 12429 for swine and 3000 for poultry. The fair runs August 26 to September 4 with premium lists available from the Des Moines secretary.
All licenses issued by the State Conservation Commission including fishing hunting trapping and twelve other kinds of licenses expire March 31. About 400 000 licenses have been purchased for 1942 and will be distributed to about a thousand agencies by April 1. The licenses will use carbon copies and a cellophane envelope for safekeeping.

Sheep and cattle also showed strength with lambs at 12.35 and fat cattle peaking at 14.25 earlier in March, while several local farmers reported stock sold at Sioux City through the week.
The Farm Credit Administration offers emergency crop and feed loans to orchardists for replanting orchards damaged by the November 1940 freeze. Loans require real estate mortgage or acceptable security and carry 4 percent interest. funds available through H E B Nichols Iowa State College horticulturist.
Cherokee County and state surveys reveal vast scrap iron in rural junk yards. Officials including A J Renaud and A A Coburn form a salvage committee to coordinate with the AAA, with estimates suggesting enough steel to build tanks and anti aircraft guns. Farmers urged to sell old iron now.
The Iowa state war boards report 17644 old cars fit only for junk. At one ton per car, total weight reaches about 35,288,000 pounds. Scrap collection is aided by Roger Leavett of Marcus Lumber Co and local entities like Quaker Oats elevs, Farmers Co-op Elev at Cleg horn, and Eclipse Lumber Co at Aurelia taking items.
