Soybeans in 20 to 82 inch rows yield 2 to 4 bushels more per acre than wider or narrower rows, says E S Dyas Iowa State College extension agronomist. Planting with a grain drill needs two bushels per acre. solid drilling can increase weediness and lower yield and bean quality. In Northern Iowa many plant 38 to 42 inch rows for weed control but lower yields. Gauge markers can be adjusted on single width machines to narrow every second or fourth space.
